ME PISAN LOS BAJOS
TYPOGRAPHYCAL EXPERIMENTATION.
It's a habit to discover them torn, frayed, and stained. While the current trend favors baggy, wide, and long pants, my experience with them was not a conscious choice or personal preference, but rather a consequence of not meeting the standard set by big brands.
I'm barely seven centimeters away from the average male height in Spain (1.77 cm), which leads me to question: does size really matter? Interestingly, those same seven centimeters are what separate the average height of Spanish men from the models representing the big textile multinational companies, with an average height of 1.83 cm.
In "Me pisan los bajos," reflections are made on how the use of trousers has been a symbol of status and power throughout history, from its association with aristocracy to its adoption by revolutionary movements. Additionally, it explores how gender norms have influenced fashion and perceptions of masculinity and femininity.
The text also delves into how social pressures and gender expectations affect both men and women in contemporary society. Surveys on attitudes towards masculinity are mentioned, revealing discrepancies between social expectations and reality, as well as the persistence of gender-based violence and hate crimes in society. Furthermore, it discusses how perceptions of fashion and masculinity have evolved over time.

ME PISAN LOS BAJOS
Results are collected from surveys where 4 typefaces (sans serif, serif, slab, and display)
are compared with a series of public figures that have been socially associated with specific types of masculinity.
With this information, how can I convey the concept of creating a healthy masculinity
and male role models in typography? I begin experimenting with the combination of the four typefaces using the paper braiding technique. Additionally, I experiment digitally with blending tools, resulting in a set of typefaces that speculatively depict a place where one can be without any complexes.
On the other hand, I create two types of animations: in the first one, the range of heights is represented through extension, and in the second one, the range of body types is represented through expansion.
After experimenting with different techniques,
I seek a way to formalize the results obtained into a graphic piece. While keeping in mind the significance of the pants piece, I create a connection between concept and experiment using embroidered patches whose shapes represent the experimentation carried out.
